100 Years Auckland Rugby League Referees' Centenary
The Auckland Rugby League Referees’ Association is planning for the up-coming Centenary in 2010.
For such a BIG event we are wishing to contact ALL referees' that have been part of the association over this time.
Please contact the association via the following options and help us prepare for what is going to be a fantastic event.
As you can imagine trying to contact everyone is a large task, so any details such as when you were a member and who your fellow referees were during that time, would be much appreciated.
********Centenary Invitation – April 2010**********
REGISTRATIONS BOOM
200+ and counting up!
Add partners and we're in for a cracking weekend!
450 Tickets sent out
JUST DAYS to go now until 100 years of YOUR Association has past.
PLEASE SEND YOUR TICKET FORMS BACK
We need to know how many people are coming.
IF you want to have your payment for tickets added to your 2010 Referee Payment then just let us know and we will do the rest.
If you are struggling to pay, don’t worry. Just pay $10 a month and we’ll do the rest.
ALL registered and interested members have been sent their tickets and a payment form in the mail.
All we ask you to do is either accept the tickets and make arrangements to PAY for them OR RETURN them. That way we will be better able to prepare for the dinner, a very expensive operation to host. You have until the 17th to do so - please get on to it NOW.
Be at the Centenary celebration weekend starting with a mix 'n mingle on FRIDAY 21st MAY 2010 to be held in conjunction with the New Zealand Rugby League Museum in Beazley Avenue in Penrose from 7.00pm onwards. (Just down the road from the Mt Smart Warriors eastern entrance with plenty of parking that time of night. The motorway will be slow - no problem, we'll be there 'till late) It's $10 to cover food and drinks - just turn up!
BRING your funds for souvenir items like CENTENARY POLO TOPS, BEER MUGS, WINE GLASSES, BADGES, TIES!
If you haven't had an opportunity to go through the MUSEUM we strongly recommend you do so. From now there is a display of our Referees material if you wish to go to visit the museum at its usual opening hours.
The Centenary Dinner is on the SATURDAY at 6.30pm at Alexandra Park.
There will be a fun afternoon of activities including golf, bowls and tag, planned for the Sunday before a MARCH PAST at the Warriors match led by our TEST REFEREES and LIFE MEMBERS.
Please ALL be there for the March past BEFORE 3.00pm. We'd like a great turn-out.
DON'T BE SHY!! Meet at the big screen at the northern end of the field where we'll get our instructions from Nadene Conlon.
For those of you who fancy a game of golf, bowls or tag, make sure you sign up now with the various organisers for an exciting weekend of reminiscing and fellowship amongst many generations of referees.

Some smarty-pants told us to look in the white pages to find members. Thanks for that advice. Maybe you should help by sending us the details of everyone listed below. Our History
There are many photos and pieces of memorabilia out there. If you can lend them for a short while so they can be copied/or displayed please contact us urgently. A book will be published after the Centenary has been so we can include as many photographs and memorable stories. If you'd like to write some items please contact us. The book will cost approximately $150 to produce but we'd like to make it available to you for about $40. We are looking for sponsorships so if you'd like to be associated with this project then get in touch. In the meanwhile we're battling along. We're sure the book will be a valuable resource long after we're all gone so ORDER your copy and support the hard work that has gone into it over the last few years.

Dear Member of the Association,
Centenary Committee meetings are being held each full meeting (the last Tuesday of the month) at 6.00pm in Clubrooms,
Alexandra Park. Members co-opted so far include Ken Loza (Chairman), Gary Whittle, Berni Carter (Executive),
Brett Maguren, Ross Wheaton and Robin Smith.
Plans are now well underway and funding is also making excellent progress with nearly $20,000 raised so far.
We are awaiting a decision from the NRL as to the Warriors for the date of their match but we have asked for it to
be on the evening of Friday 21st May 2010 so that everyone can attend both functions.
Many administrators and referees are part of the Warriors and of course we want everyone to be able to come to both events.
That means we will have a pre-match Mix ‘n Mingle at 4.00-7.00pm on the afternoon of Friday 21st May 2010,
a post match event after the game, and the Dinner Function on Saturday 22nd May 2010 at Alexander Park Raceway, Greenlane, from 6.30pm onwards.
There will be a variety of events on Sunday 23rd May 2010 such as bowls, tag and golf and we are assured
the Ladies we be catered for with Joan Sargeant liaising.
To commemorate the first meeting of May 24th 1910 we will have a FULL CENTENARY Referees meeting at 7.30pm Monday May 24th 2010.
Please make sure you register on the attached form, and begin paying for the commemorative items you wish to have,
and including the Dinner Function.
Check the website: www.arlrefs.co.nz/ to see what is happening. Look out for anyone who has not registered and let me know.
Thank you,
Robin Smith
Centenary
Committee
The
Centenary Committee have been meeting regularly from the first full meeting as
plans really start to kick into gear.
Members
are urged to fill in a Registration Form and are welcome to start making small
payments towards what will be a superb evening – and a very reasonably priced
one as well. Dinner tickets are expected to be about $80.
Lots of
members have already indicated they will be in attendance at not just the
Dinner but also many of the weekend’s activities.
Put the
date into your calendar now – May 21st to 24th 2010 with
the dinner on Saturday 22nd - a must attend evening. We’d like 100%
turnout so book your table now.
We are in
negotiations with Graeme Annesley – many of whom will remember as a regular NRL
referee who attended several of our events several years ago. We are hoping the
Warriors will have a Friday evening match thereby allowing referees, guests,
and possibly players to meet with us on this auspicious night.
Make sure
you let any of the committee know your preference for activities that weekend.
Golf, bowls, tennis, shopping, Warriors match, dinner and the meeting of the 21st
are already in train. We are of course open to suggestions. It’s your Centenary
after all.
Volunteers
are always welcome.
We hope to
have an open dinner night with the Life Members and hope as many members as
possible will attend. A date after May is being sought.
Centenary
memorabilia will include a beer mug, a tie/tie pin, badge, and polo and order
forms will be available soon.
Robin
Smith is looking for old and new photos, unique jerseys and other memorabilia
suitable for display or a proposed Centenary book.
